Rio 2016
Olympics 2016
The Olympics were invented in Greece in 776 BC to honour the Greek God Zeus and were presented every four years at Olympia, they inspired the modern Olympic Games. This year, the Olympics is being held in Rio, (which is in Brazil.) An interesting fact about Rio is that ‘Rio de Janeiro’ is Portuguese for ‘River of January.’ Rio also has a nickname Cidade Maravilhosa, meaning ‘the marvellous city.’ Rio is a really great place to stay, but a few athletes have pulled out because of the Zika Virus. Sports include, BMX, Badminton , Football, Shot put, Volleyball, Skeleton, Golf and Rugby. The Olympics is only three days away and I am excited about fencing, Rugby sevens and Football. My favourite Olympians are probably Mahe Drysdale and Valerie Adams, because I met them both at The Weetbix Tryathlon. I am excited because cricket may be part of The Olympics in 2024.
