Image result for Ravens Gate  Ravens Gate by Anthony Horowitz. Book 1 of 5.

It all starts in a lonely warehouse when Matthew Freeman and his 'friend' Kelvin decide to steal some expensive gear. It's not as easy as they expect. Matt does not want trouble, but when a fit security guard finds them stealing the goods, Kelvin stabs him in the stomach. Matt helps the guard and waits for the ambulance and the police to arrive. Matt is 14 and too young for prison, so he is sent to the L.E.A.F project, helping young criminals get a normal life. But Matt is not normal. Not at all. When he was 8 he had a vision of his parents dying, and sure enough, his parents died.
The town is strange too. Death chants are sung and who are the old ones? Can Matt harness his power and can his friend Richard help Matt to stop the Old Ones, who if opened by the Ravens Gate portal, would destroy the world? Matt is one of the 5 children  to stop the old ones, but can he find the other 4 before it's to late?
I rate it 5 out of 5 and recommend it for children ages 12+
