Labour day

On Labour Day people have time off to do things they enjoy.
It all started in the 19th century, people wanted to have an eight hour working day. Then in 1840 an carpenter called Samuel Parnell fought for this right...and won!. The first Labour Day was celebrated in New Zealand on the second Wednesday of October 1900. The holiday was moved to the fourth Monday of October in 1910 and has remained so ever since.
The eight hour day movement was insisted by workers who were exhausted by 12-14 hours of work in 1867 but it didn't become a reality until 1938 when The New Deals Fair Labor Standards Act made it legal.
