Fault Lines

A fault line is a fracture across what  the crust has moved. The relationship between faults and earthquakes was first established after the 1855 Wellington earthquake in New Zealand.  Major Fault lines can be found in: Hamilton , Wellington  and Christchurch.

Faults are caused by plates grinding against each other as they slowly move. Small earthquakes are are also caused be caused by faults not previously recognized.
